I just purchased the laptop at 10pm yesterday. I know, because they’d turned the lights off, and I was stuck choosing between this and mac. I read all the reviews and figured I’d choose it. The first thing I did after installing security software was download skype. I couldnt wait to use it. I called my cousin to do video chat, and the camera started, but instead to jus display my image it took a snap shot. I went into Skype to change video settings, but it seems the camera/driver/app (im not an IT person so please forgive me) did not pick up/receive the command. After trying several times and restarting, a YouCam image came up. Very Frustrating. . . . .
I went to Devices on the HP to find application, but the camera wasnt listed in the devices. Then I used the Media Smart short cut to see if it would work in that app, but it only and that seem to give the camera a jump start, just to immediately stop working. I thought that maybe I just picked up a faulty HP, but after searching for solutions, realized its a common with HPs especially with the Vista. and Windows 7 operating systems. Im happy I found out soon enough to return for a full refund. If the webcam is malfunctioning this soon, I can only imagine the next three years. Didnt wanna spend it all at once, but I guess I’ll have to shell out the extra money for the properly more efficient Macintosh.

I bought this explicitly for using as a budget HTPC. I didn’t need Blu-Ray or long battery life because I intended to park it on my components and plug it into my big screen via HDMI. I did need a computer with good graphics and a pc that was powerful enough to run flash and HD video without hiccuping. Picked this up yesterday and by the time I had the OS decrappified of all of the junk software they add to these budget computers I was up and running and connected to my entertainment center and watching youtube on the big screen in no time.
I’ll leave some updates later but here are a few important things to keep in mind.
    1. There is a little button above the touchpad that turns it on and off. Make sure it’s on before you freak out.
    2. You have to touch the wireless icon in order to turn on the wireless card. It glows red and changes color to blue when it’s on and it’s touch sensitive.
Both points aren’t made clear in the manual.
